A Princess’ call to help the underprivileged

MASERU – Her Royal Highness Princess Senate Mohato Seeiso has launched the Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe School Drive, an initiative aimed at supporting underprivileged learners across Lesotho by collecting essential school supplies and sanitary wear.
The campaign, headed by the Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe Foundation, seeks to assist learners from Matsieng and neighbouring schools who struggle to access basic educational necessities.
The initiative focuses on collecting a variety of school supplies, including stationery, sanitary towels and full school uniforms – items which will include shoes, socks, shirts, skirts and other essential clothing items that make up a complete school uniform.
According to the foundation, the campaign is part of its broader mission to uplift communities and restore dignity among young people by ensuring that learners from disadvantaged backgrounds have the resources they need to attend school with confidence.
Speaking during the launch, Princess Senate said the initiative aims to ensure that learners receive full school uniforms and other important school materials.
She emphasized that many children miss school or feel discouraged from attending classes due to a lack of proper uniforms and sanitary products.
“We seek to mobilize community support and partnerships for education-focused initiatives. We would like to encourage more patrons, corporate partners and members of the public to contribute to the donation drive so that learners can receive everything they need for a better education,” she said.
The Princess further appealed to Basotho from all walks of life to support the initiative by donating any school-related items that could help struggling learners.
She explained that education plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the country, and ensuring that children have the necessary resources is an important step toward building a stronger society.
The campaign has already received support from business partners, including Maseru Mall, which has partnered with the foundation to help collect donations.
The Maseru Mall centre manager, Nkala Motlalane, pledged their commitment to supporting the initiative and called on shoppers and tenants at the mall to participate in the campaign.
“It is truly an honour to be part of this initiative. We promise to go hand in hand with Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe so that it reaches greater heights and brings positive impact to every Mosotho child,” Motlalane said.
He further encouraged all tenants and shoppers at the mall to take part in the campaign by donating whatever they can.
Motlalane announced that donation boxes will be placed at every entrance of Maseru Mall to make it easier for shoppers and businesses to contribute to the initiative.
“We are calling on all our tenants and shoppers to support this noble cause. Even a small contribution can make a big difference in the life of a child,” he added.
The Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe Foundation noted that the initiative also reflects the values of peace, unity and compassion championed by the founder of the Basotho nation, King Moshoeshoe I.
Through the campaign, the foundation hopes to strengthen community solidarity and encourage Basotho to support one another, particularly when it comes to improving access to education.
Over the years, the foundation has been involved in various community-focused programmes aimed at youth empowerment and social development. These include donation drives, community engagement activities and initiatives designed to create opportunities for young people.
By launching the Shoeshoe ea Moshoeshoe School Drive, the foundation hopes to expand its impact and ensure that more learners, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, are able to attend school with the dignity and confidence they deserve.
The foundation believes that through collective effort and community support, many children across Lesotho can be given a fair opportunity to pursue their education and build a brighter future.
