Man arrested for smuggling bullets into prison
MASERU – A Khoaba-lea-bua man who was visiting his incarcerated brother at the Mohale’s Hoek prison last week Monday was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle live ammunition into the prison facility.
According to police spokesperson, Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, warders found seven rounds of live ammunition in a pair of shoes the man had taken into the prison.
Mopeli said the suspect claimed he had been asked by a friend to hand over the shoes to another inmate, adding however, that he was not aware of the ammunition inside.
The 29-year-old man was arrested during a routine inspection of visitors by prison personnel.
Mopeli said the man was charged with unlawful possession of ammunition while police investigations into the matter continue.
