MASERU – Local petrol heads are all smiles, thanks to the introduction of the all new Corolla Hatch and the new RAV4 by Maseru Toyota.

The new Corolla Hatch comes at the entry level price of M376, 600 while the new RAV4 comes with the entry level price of M 416, 400; both of which are quite competitive compared to other cars within the segment from other manufacturers, according to Toyota Maseru.

The two models were successfully launched on Friday last week at Maseru Toyota premises. Both cars have been described as sophisticated, reliable and durable by the renowned local motor car dealer.

The new Toyota Corolla Hatch is set to replace the Auris and will be an addition to the corolla range. This the company is doing it to align themselves with the global name change while also taking the opportunity to afford customers a completely redesigned vehicle with more specifications and a wider array of safety features.

According to the motor car dealer, the new Corolla Hatch is the epitome of effortless style with sleek lines and sophisticated styling both on the exterior and interior, a perfect fit for the person who wants to make sure they look good while driving.

The company further revealed that the car is ready to ignite the passions of Basotho who are obsessed with style while remaining a car that has a low purchase and frugal fuel consumption. It also comes with the Electric Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC).

“The Corolla Hatch is new but it is coming from our previous hatch back model, previously the Auris and before that the Runx. We are trying to give our customers variety as far as these models are concerned. Corolla is a flagship car at Toyota and it is our hope that we will move volumes with it. It is more catered to the younger generation under 40s, more males but also for females,” said Nthatisi Lelimo, the sales and marketing manager at Maseru Toyota.

Lelimo, however, admitted that the company is also testing the market with the new Corolla, assuming that it could be a difficult package for them considering that it is more suited for young people below the age of 40. This age group, the company noted, are people who are more attracted to the Japanese import cars more than the original brands.

“Hatch back is a bit of a difficult package which we are trying to get into because it is geared for young people and not families and for most young people there are alternative Japanese imports which are giving you a better price. This means for Corolla it is a bit of a challenge for us because the people that we are looking at are those that change their minds pretty easily making it a bit of a difficult market but we are more confident with RAV4,” she added.

The new RAV4, on the other hand, has continuously managed to perfectly merge the best of city and outdoor lifestyle activity vehicles, becoming a symbol of fun and adventure that plays anywhere.

The 2019 fifth edition generation RAV4 is sleeker, bolder and more streamlined than ever, with greater engine power, better fuel economy and more off-road capabilities.

The car offers manual, automatic and CTV drivetrains allowing drivers to choose from these three incredible models.

It is designed to take on any terrain with an aggressive, rugged look to suit its outdoor lifestyle offering. The car further comes with unique 18-inch alloy wheels, an enlarged front grille that protrudes further than its DX and VX counterparts, as well as pronounced skid plates and wheel arches.

“We are launching our new generation of RAV4 which is targeted more at older people unlike the new Corolla. It is more mature and will give you all the safety features that you need along with the beauty and sophistication.

“We are now only going with the 2-litre and 2.5 only with petrol engine and not diesel because we are moving with global standards so we are trying to do away with diesel because we need to be green and protect our environment so the RAF4 only comes in the petrol engine and is world’s best in terms of safety features,” added one of the marketing managers, Kapoko Letsie, in an interview with Public Eye on Friday.

The company is hoping for a perfect reception in the market based on the pricing and sophistication and features in the two cars.
