Woman arrested for poisoning own new born

MASERU – Hoohlo police have arrested a 36-year-old woman who allegedly tried to poison her newly born baby girl because the baby was not her husband’s.

The woman who is originally from Mafeteng gave birth to the child prematurely on April 25 and allegedly poisoned her the following night.

Police reports show that the suspect wanted to get rid of the baby because it did not belong to her husband who is an immigrant worker in South Africa.

The baby, however, survived and is recuperating at the Queen ’Mamohato Memorial Hospital.
