Father kills son, 16-month old
MASERU – Mohale’s Hoek police are investigating a case in which a 27-year-old man allegedly assaulted his 16-month-old son to death with a stick.
The baby according to police spokesperson Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli was later admitted in hospital where he died.
The incident allegedly occurred in Ha Popolosi on April 30 while the suspect was taking care of his son in the absence of the mother.
The child was later that day rushed to hospital where he allegedly died the following day, Mopeli told a press conference yesterday.
It is further alleged that the dead child’s grandmother only reported the incident to the police on May 8.
The suspect was thereafter arrested and a murder case has since been opened against him.
It also emerged that during a previous incident, the suspect was having an intense argument with his wife who was carrying the same child on her back and the suspect hit the woman with a stick.
The child, it is alleged was accidentally hit during the scuffle and his arm was broken.
