Solidarity prayer for ’Mme Doti

Maseru – As Lesotho joins the world in celebrating Women’s Month, a group of women civic groups has planned a solidarity prayer visit for former Social development minister ’Matebatso Doti tomorrow following the reported assault she suffered at her home.

The women led associations, namely; SHEHIVE, BASALI BATS’OENYANE and THURSDAYS IN BLACK (TIB) told Public Eye Online they want to support her in her tough times, but above all, they also want to make a clear statement that they will not tolerate women abuse in any form.

Everyone is invited to Mme Doti’s home at Lithabaneng for the event which starts at 3pm.

Towards the end of last month at around 11pm, about eight assailants broke into Doti’s house through a bathroom window and stormed her bedroom where they found her asleep.

“The attackers stabbed honourable Doti several times with a sharp object,” police spokesperson Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli said in a statement.

Mopeli said the assailants then took two guns from the house, ATM cards and a wallet which had M400 and Doti’s car keys.

“They fled with her car which was later found abandoned and they also withdrew M4,000 from the First National Bank (FNB) ATM,” he added.

He said investigations had been launched and called on anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the suspects to “come forward”.

Government spokeperson Ntakeng Selinyane said last month: “Police working together with other security establishments, have launched investigations that will lead to the arrest of these goons.”
