Maseru – Vodacom Lesotho (VCL) yesterday handed over a brand-new Toyota Hilux, as part of the telecommunications giant’s win-a-bakkie campaign.

The campaign, launched back in 2016, seeks to emphasize vodacom’s commitment to empowering small businesses with alternative revenue streams.

Honourable Chalane Phori Minister of Ministry of Small Businesses Development and Cooperatives Marketing graced the occasion.

Phori said the national strategic plan includes job creation and combating hunger, which he said could be achieved through small businesses.

Vodacom has played a huge role in growing small businesses, he said, and his ministry is therefore thankful to Vodacom.

He added that the government will stand firm in fighting criminal acts towards business owners so that investors will feel safe to come to Lesotho.

VCL’s Managing Director, Mr Philip Amoateng, said M-Pesa has played a huge part in job creation nationwide and at present there’s over five thousand agents nationwide and continues to assure banks that they are not competition to banks but are a collaboration instead.
