MASERU – Local millennials still think insurances are for old people who already have some form of responsibilities.

Because of such childish thinking they do not take up any kind of insurance policy.

Much of the older generation of Basotho, on the other hand, see insurance as a scheme to be used solely as funeral schemes (Mpate sheleng).

This shows our society lacks adequate knoowledge on various kinds of insurances needed and when they may be profitably used.

Thari is here to teach, inform and provide various insurance services to Basotho, with all its agencies in the 10 districts of the country.

The insurance broker was started by young people with fresh ideas to make insurance more flexible and affordable.

Motjope Mokhathi, the chief executive officer at Thari, said the insurer is a locally based company that provides specialist financial services in insurance broking and risk advisory services, employee benefits consulting and investment advisory services, to retirement funds, banking, corporate, private clients and the public sector in Lesotho.

The company is uniquely structured to permit its clients across categories of its insurance and other broking business to participate in the profits generated from the underlying business operations, he said.

“We provide tailor-made insurance, investments and loans product development solutions to banks, corporate institutions, public service schemes, and other organized groups.

“Here we use our experience, expertise and innovation to design products that are suitable to the needs of the engaging institution’s clients,” he said, adding that the company is run exclusively by young people.

He further indicated that Thari offers services such as Funeral Cover, Homeowners Insurance, Medical Aid, Business all risk Insurance, Employee Benefits, House Contents Insurances, Group Credit Life and Motor Vehicle Insurance.

“Through Thari, we are saying its high time people understood different kinds of insurance,” he said.

Although the business is showing growth, Mokhathi indicated there are still a lot of work to be done to win people’s trust.

“What I have noticed is that since our company is made up of young people, many doubt our reliability, but we are here to inform Basotho that we are here to provide the best services that they can trust and rely on,” he said, adding that they are inspired by the opportunity of building and creating an innovative, expert and truly empowering local pioneer in the employee benefits, insurance, risk and investments space.
