MASERU – Lesotho’s Under 16 Chess Youth team arrived back into the country in a jubilant mood, after one of their players T’sepe Lebajoa won the 2019 Eswatini Open Chess Championship that was held in Mbabane, Swaziland last weekend.

Different chess teams from five African countries including South Africa, Kingdom of Eswatini, Botswana, Mozambique and Kingdom of Lesotho contested in this tournament.

T’sepe Lebajoa, who is the champion of 2019 Eswatini Chess Championship, pocketed M2 000 and was awarded a gold medal and a certificate of excellence.

We are very happy and we would like to congratulate T’sepe Lebajoa for putting our country on the map by winning the 2019 Chess Championship in the open section among those four nations.

We also feel very honoured to have two more players who finished among the top 10 in the same section and we also have a winner in the development section, Motalingoane Caeser, who won the gold medal, trophy and certificate of excellence,” Chess Federation of Lesotho Public Relations Officer (PRO) Selatela Khiba said in an interview with Public Eye on Monday this week.

Khiba, however, said they did not participate well in the Prestige Section compared to last year when they were crowned in Prestige Section.
