Nthane M5.5m COVID-19 relief fund rolls

MOHALE’S HOEK – Recipients of the Nthane Holdings M5.5 million national lockdown letup for street vendors, vulnerable households, senior citizens, people living with disability and the orphaned on Friday braved the rain to receive their food parcels.

The company announced at the end of the past month that they have put aside M5.5 million to assist vulnerable sections of society to survive the 23-day COVID-19 induced national lockdown; and on April 7 the drive, named Nthane Holdings – Movement against COVID-19, was launched in Teyateyaneng Berea where hundreds of residents received food parcels.

In the second leg of the humanitarian initiative, on Friday around 1 100 vulnerable residents of Mohale’s hoek converged the district’s race course where they were given food parcels which compromised maize meal, beans, cooking oil and salt.

Nthane Holdings’ Public Relations Officer, ‘Mamotlatla Nthane, said the pledged money was intended to cover all the ten districts of the country, on the same mission. The next stop is Quthing district.

Mohale’s hoek is one of the country’s 10 districts that have, for years, been facing food shortage because of poor crop production that has been experienced due to climate change.
