Maseru – Scores of youths were seen lining up at the National Security Services (NSS) offices today submitting their applications.

This came after NSS advertised 80 posts open for recruitment.

Dozens of hopeful youths were lined up from as early as 7 am at the NSS offices.

Public Eye spoke to Thebe Tsatsi, a 23-year-old from Mokhotlong currently studying at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, doing his last year as a fashion designer.

Tsatsi said he came to apply because although he has not yet completed his studies, he already knows that the chances of him getting a job are slim therefore he decided to try his luck and apply.

“Due to the high unemployment rate in Lesotho, I know that I might not get a job therefore I am here today to try my luck and though the line is long, I am willing to wait and endure,” he said.

“I am willing to drop out of school at any time should I get this job. I would rather remain without a tertiary qualification if I get a job than having a degree without a job,” he concluded.

Lesotho’s unemployment rate for 2019 was 23.41 percent. The most worrying trend is a rising unemployment rate among youths with tertiary qualifications as more and more graduate while job opportunities keep shrinking.
