Maseru – As the third wave of Covid-19 looms, South Africa yesterday confirmed that its Free State province in particular together with two other provinces are experiencing it.

South Africa’s National Institute of Communicable Disease (NICD) has confirmed the dreaded third round is upon us and Lesotho, now in the throes of its winter will not be spared.

In an interview with Public Eye Online this week, NACOSEC risk communications officer ’Mateboho Mosebekoa said despite that Covid-19 regulations were relaxed recently, Basotho should continue to follow preventive steps to avoid more infections in the country.

She added the institution and its stakeholders are currently working on ensuring that the infectivity stays under control.

Mosebekoa said the administration of vaccines against the virus remains one of the most important step to confirming that Basotho are protected from the virus although a large number of Basotho are yet to be vaccinated.

In his last national address, Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro emphasised that the battle against COVID 19 is not over as he announced relaxing some regulations placed to mitigate the virus.

On the global stage, India is the hardest hit by this wave with the mortality being counted in thousands daily in the densely populated sub-continent of about 1 billion people.

Depressing scenes of patients being turned away from overstretched hospitals with inadequate oxygen have become the order of the day on global news channels, while unlikely public places have been turned into crematoriums as undertakers fail to cope.
