Mob assaults murder suspect

MASERU – A 33-year-old man from Thabana Mokhele is recovering in Butha Buthe hospital after a community mob assaulted him over suspicion he had murdered a 74-year-old woman.

Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli said the deceased’s son allegedly caught the accused in the act, hitting the deceased with a spade. By the time community members came to rescue her, it was already late and the woman died on the spot. 

The suspect will appear in court as soon as he is discharged from hospital.
