Kamoli treason trial continues

MASERU – Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli’s much-talked about treason case will occupy centre-stage again as the trial resumes on December 6. The former army chief, who is accused of the 2014 murder of police Sub-Inspector Mokheseng Ramahloko along with three other soldiers – including Captain Litekanyo Nyakane and Lance Corporals Motloheloa Ntsane and Leutsoa Motsieloa, has been languishing in remand for years.

It is still not clear as to what direction the trial will take after it suffered a lengthy delay due to an application filed by Mothetjoa Metsing and Selibe Mochoboroane who are challenging their joinder in the case.

The two political leaders accuse the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Advocate Hlalefang Motinyane of failing to follow due process when filing the matter against them. Metsing who is the former Deputy Prime Minister is also the leader of the Lesotho Congress of Democracy (LCD).

Mochoboroane who is the Minister of Development Planning is also the leader of the Movement for Economic Change (MEC). The accused are alleged to have killed Sub-Insp Ramahloko during an incident that occurred at the police headquarters on August 30, 2014.
