MASERU – Upcoming local rap sensation, Mopholosi Mokotso who trades by the stage name Maluty is bent on taking his music career to the next level. He has teamed up with South African artiste, Treasure, featured in his album Wrld War 8. Treasure (18) is a TV and radio presenter who is also the founder of Great Times Magazine.

He is an independent artiste who manages his own career, and is already trying to get recognition and catch the attention of some players internationally. Before the Maluty collaboration he previously worked with Peng G from Zambia, Hodie from Peru, Virtuez from Nigeria and Ben Brainy from Ghana. His album is now available on digital stores, and he will be dropping several music videos very soon.

Born and raised at Ha Makunyapane, in Thaba-Tseka, Maluty has always had his eyes on collaborations with already established players in the industry and he says it has been a blessing for him to be roped into the production of the young South African whose real names are Mpho Gift Tharaga. Maluty is a Hip-Hop artist who ventured into the music industry in 2014, though he only gained recognition in 2017 when he released his first song. He has, to date, an album and five singles under his belt.

“I am very proud I was featured on Treasure’s album Wrld War 8. I was so pleased when he told me that he would love to feature me in one of his tracks in the album ‘Emisa matsogo’. “It was so overwhelming because we did not know each other before then, but we are best buddies now. This gig really gave me the exposure I need because since the collaboration I started receiving text messages from other artistes upraising my input in that song,” Maluty tells Life&Style. The album also features different artists from other countries and most of them really loved the song he has been featured on – creating a good working relationship between them.

Asked about his inspiration in music he says: “There is nothing much that inspires me; I have always loved music from a young age and always dreamed of releasing a collection when the time is right. Right now I only have one EP album titled ‘My Feeling’ that was released in October 2020.” Maluty is presently looking forward to working on a joint EP with Molly, another talented local vocalist. The project is expected to be completed and released for airplay early next year. Maluty only dishes out his songs in the vernacular, and has a single ‘Mphe lebitso la pina’ which is enjoying airplay at the moment.
