Thetsane Wellness Club continues to thrive

MASERU – The Thetsane Wellness Club is not just a space for fitness enthusiasts; but is a vibrant community where people come together to share experiences about nutrition, healthy living, and overall wellness.  Since its humble beginnings in 2018, when it was formed by just five health-conscious members, the club has flourished.

Today, it boasts over 60 members under the guidance of Seeiso Letsie, who is both the coach and the trainer. The club is located in Ha Thetsane, and its doors are wide open to anyone looking to lead a healthier, more active lifestyle. Letsie recalls how the club’s initial goal was to maintain healthy lifestyles and prevent chronic diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes.

“These are conditions that can often be managed or even avoided through regular exercise,” he explained. What makes the club special is its inclusive nature. There is no age restriction – members range from the young to the elderly, proving that fitness truly is for everyone. “We want more people to join, especially the youth. Keeping them active and engaged can prevent unhealthy habits and idleness,” Letsie said.

The club is not limited to the Ha Thetsane residents either as people from surrounding areas like Ha Shelile and Abia are regular participants. “We have become more than just a fitness group,” Letsie said. “We are like a family. We support each other not only in fitness but in life as well.”

Operating only on weekends, Thetsane Wellness Club is free to join. However, members often contribute voluntarily to help grow the club’s savings. Interestingly, each participant is expected to bring along a ball, which is central to many of their exercises. Despite their informal setting, the club has big dreams. “We hope one day to have our own gym and enough funds to assist members in need,” Letsie shared.

Mosotho Lephatsa said the club does not seek financial gain. “Our sole purpose is to exercise, keep our bodies healthy, and steer clear of diseases.” The club regularly organises workshops featuring experts from various organisations to teach participants about healthy living and to motivate them to stay consistent with their fitness routines.

One of the most remarkable stories in the club is that of its oldest member, a 72-year-old visually impaired man who, despite initial challenges, now participates with ease. “He’s truly an inspiration to us all,” Letsie said proudly. Each year, the club celebrates its anniversary with a fun walk, an event eagerly anticipated by members. Last October, they tied the walk with Independence Day celebrations, concluding with a braai where members came together to relax, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company – solidifying the club’s spirit of togetherness and wellness.
