Econet closes landmark ‘Ho’a Khonahala’ Campaign with final Toyota Starlet handover
’MAKERESEMESE LETUKA
MASERU – The curtain has officially fallen on Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) and Sasai Econet Financial Services’ (SEFS) flagship ‘Ho’a Khonahala’ campaign, a four-month initiative that has reshaped customer engagement and distributed over M6 million in prizes.
The grand finale, held last Friday at the Sefika Complex, marked the culmination of the programme with the handover of the third and final brand-new Toyota Starlet.
Launched in early 2026, the ‘Ho’a Khonahala’ campaign was designed as a comprehensive loyalty drive aimed at rewarding customer engagement across Econet’s mobile and EcoCash platforms. From its inception, the campaign set out to demonstrate that everyday transactions could translate into tangible rewards.
With a prize pool exceeding M6 million, it offered customers across Lesotho the chance to win one of three Toyota Starlet vehicles, cash prizes, smartphones, and Smart TVs, transforming routine mobile usage into a series of opportunities.
The campaign’s mechanics were built around a system of accumulation and redemption. Throughout its duration, customers earned points and cashback on their transactions – the more they engaged, the greater their rewards.
This structure not only incentivised usage but also ensured that value was continuously returned to the consumer, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to its subscriber base.
Speaking at the finale, ETL Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Plaatjies, reflected on the campaign’s broader impact, which extended far beyond the headline prizes.
“What makes this moment truly special is not just the prizes Econet has been handing over, but the real impact behind them over the past few months,” Plaatjies said. He noted that while over 650 customers received direct prizes and thousands more benefited from cashback rewards, the campaign’s success was also measured in its ripple effect across local industries.
“We have seen lives touched – musicians and dancers, the hospitality industry, small and medium enterprises, as well as small businesses uplifted, and communities energised throughout this campaign,” he added.
Plaatjies emphasised that each winner represented a story of possibility, reinforcing the campaign’s central message.
“Ho’a Khonahala was never just about rewards but about demonstrating that when their customers choose Econet, they choose to give back in meaningful ways,” he stated. “This is the essence of our Blue DNA, and we remain committed to creating more opportunities that bring value, hope, and real change to our customers across Lesotho.”
The final car recipient, Nthati Sephaka from Ha Abia, spoke on behalf of all winners, expressing her disbelief and deep gratitude.
“Winning this new Toyota Starlet is more than just a dream come true for me,” Sephaka said. “I never imagined that simply being part of Econet and SEFS would change my life in such a big way. On behalf of all the winners, we are truly grateful to the Econet family for rewarding us and for bringing real opportunities to our communities.”
Echoing these sentiments, ETL’s Public Relations and Customer Experience Specialist, Retšelisitsoe Nkhahle, highlighted that the campaign represented more than a series of prize giveaways.
“It symbolised a shared journey between Econet and the communities it serves,” Nkhahle remarked, adding that the initiative reaffirmed the company’s dedication to placing customers at the heart of its operations.
From urban centres to rural districts, the ‘Ho’a Khonahala’ campaign activated communities and strengthened the bond between the brand and its customers. As ETL continues to lead and shape Lesotho’s digital economy, the company remains committed to rolling out impactful initiatives that not only enhance customer experience but also give back to the communities that support it.
