MASERU – Matekane Group of Companies (MGC), has built a school in Mantṡonyane, in the Thaba-Tseka district to cater for both primary and secondary education.
Mantṡonyane is known in Lesotho as a place that gave birth to one of the greatest businessmen in Lesotho, Sam Matekane, the owner of Matekane Group of Companies (MGC) in Maseru.
As a result, Matekane has once again chosen Mantṡonyane as a destination for yet another milestone. The same company build a Catholic church in the area in 2005.
While the community remembers the 2005 initiative as if it is still fresh, the company has done it again, this time with a bigger gift that is set to benefit the entire Mantṡonyane community.
The school which cost millions of Maloti, according to the company head of corporate communication and marketing ‘Mamotake Matekane, is a combination of both the Primary and Secondary level and also includes a stadium which is set to benefit not only the school but the entire sporting fraternity in the country.
“The owner of this company is proud to give back to the community where he was raised as a young Mosotho herd-boy like any other. So these things are an inspiration to young people in the area so that they can also make it against all odds in life,” ‘Mamotake said in an interview with Public Eye on Tuesday.
The project which took six years to complete also tackles unemployment around the Mantṡonyane area as the company is also providing green houses to the community for their own agricultural projects that are also expected to reduce poverty in the area.
MGC will continue with several other projects in the area in future. The company is also deeply committed to other corporate social responsibility projects in the form of sports and educational bursaries, among others.
