Matsieng Youth, Metropolitan Lesotho mark King’s Birthday

MATSIENG – Matsieng youth celebrated the King’s Birthday on July 20 with a 5km and 10km marathon run where respective winners walked away with vouchers worth of M500 as third prize, M1, 000 second prize and M1,500 first prize in both 5km and 10km runs.
Metropolitan Lesotho sponsored the noble event.
His Majesty Letsie III, his brother Prince Seeiso Bereng Seeiso and Queen ’Masenate graced the event as well as villagers from surrounding areas.
Speaking on behalf of Matsieng Youth Development Club, Relebohile Khathibe said they were very humbled at the fact that both the King and Queen agreed to be part of the initiative adding that it is rare to be able to be around them.
He said they first a planned as the youth in the area to stop going elsewhere to have fun and started coming together as one.
He said as they realized his Majesty’s Birthday drawing closer they wandered how else they could celebrate his birthday different from the way the rest of the country does.
That was when they started to draw a list of things they could do within the period.
Khathibe said they came up with a plan to include a Marathon not only to celebrate the King but to also help bring the youth together and help each other make their area a better place.
He said what strengthened their will power is because “we realized that there was no one to appear magically and redeem them so we stood up and started acting towards creating a better tomorrow for the community and ourselves”.
Metropolitan’s Brand and Marketing Manager, Ts’okolo Makeka said Metropolitan is always delighted to help better lives because the well-being and future of this country is their biggest priority.
He added that they also could hardly turn a blind eye when good will initiatives that empower people which is why they took they “first opportunity to help Matsieng youth’s vision and plans materialize”.
“Every year when His Majesty’s birthday advances, Metropolitan sends out messages wishing him well. This year we were wandering what we could offer different for sustainable change in this community. So finding out that the youth wanted run and to be with our father on this day melted our hearts. I want to guarantee that this is the beginning of a warm and long friendship because Metropolitan puts the youth first,” Makeka said.
His Majesty sent out his special thanks to Metropolitan Lesotho saying he appreciates the support they gave the youth towards making their plans a success, adding that he has noticed that “this company has been there from the very start and have since been working together in initiatives that change lives”.
