Desperate vendors sell spoilt stock at half price
MAMELLO SEBATANE
MASERU – Street vendors are crying over their spoilt stock of fruits and vegetables which they couldn’t sell because of the lockdown.
This reporter noticed that a significant number of them are in business, despite the ongoing 14-day lockdown
Mohlomi Mohlomi said: “I have only started coming to work today because I could not stay at home anymore knowing that I would lose most of my stock. Indeed, my fears were confirmed this morning when I got here,” he said, showing me rotten cabbages and other vegetables.
He indicated that his only option was to peel off rotten leaves from the cabbage, wash some partly spoilt fruits and sell at half the normal price.
“I cannot give away or dump the stock because I had hoped to make some income out of it so I have reduced the prices,” he said.
