Soldiers catch electricity cable thieves

MASERU – Hape Mathaba, 23, who lives at Lekhalong in Mokhotlong appeared before the Butha-Buthe magistrate court accused of stealing electric wires at Afriski Mountain Resort.
The suspect was asked to pay M500 bail and M3000 surety deposit which he managed to pay.
He will again appear before court on March 29, 2021.
Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli said on March 10, 2021 around 22:30 am Lesotho Defense Force (LDF) members patrolling the area found the suspect with other men cutting electricity cables.
The suspect his accomplices fled leaving their car and tools behind.
The following day Mathaba reported a case of car jacking and robbery to the police but investigations indicated Mathaba was among the criminals who had been caught trying to steal electricity wires.
His accomplices are still at large.
