MASERU – At least 174 groups of farmers from different parts of the country are benefiting from the used-grain programme introduced by the Maluti Mountain Brewery (MMB) in partnership with the Lesotho National Farmers Union (LENAFU).
According to a press statement issued by the brewery, the programme which was implemented in October 2020 resulted from meetings which were held in June 2020 by LENAFU and the Ministry of Agriculture through the Department of Livestock.
The statement shows that in those meetings, it was discussed as to how to distribute the used grain from the MMB in a transparent manner.
“LENAFU came up with a proposal that was acceptable to the ministry and in October 2020, MMB entered into an agreement with LENAFU to facilitate the no-cost distribution of spent grain to farmers,” says the statement adding that the farmers’ body as an umbrella body for farmers and their organisations was best suited to coordinate the programme.
The farmers under the agreement, the statement further shows are encouraged to group themselves according to their proximity in order to facilitate transportation of the grain from the MMB and distribute it among members.
The MMB Corporate Affairs Manager, Lisebo Mosisili, said their aim is to bring people together for a better world, and the collaboration with LENAFU signifies the corporate social responsibility of MMB.
