MASERU – The nascent Maseru Film Club has organised a two-day Film Industry Shake-up Workshop aimed at equipping participants with film skills.
The Film Sector Ground Breakers Lesotho initiative will enthusiasts converge at Lesia High School, in Maseru, from April 24 to 25.
The drive to establish local film clubs was kick-started in February and this will be the first shake-up since inception of the idea. Everybody who has registered will be educated and sharpened on acting, directing, cinematography and SFX make-up – there will be facilitators to share information and skills on those particular areas of cinematography.
A second workshop will be held next month, focusing on concept development and it also give participants a chance to learn about different fields in this area, according to programmes coordinator Rantsatsi Mokeki.
“If in the first workshop a person was in an acting class this time around they will be in a directing class,” Mokeki told Life&Style. “The reason we thought of this workshop is that we want to develop a sustainable film industry in Lesotho, a lot of people have studied theatre and drama and other related courses but after that they do not know what to do.
We want to give them a variety of choices and skills on what to do after,” he added. So far about 240 people have registered for the workshop, and organisers plan to venture into other districts – having chosen Maseru as the Launchpad for the project.
