Sizzling model branches into acting

MASERU – Michelle Dyamdeki, 23, from Ha Pita in Maseru needs no introduction to the local entertainment industry – she has been in the public domain for quite some time now. Besides being one the most prominent models in the country, she is an actress for a new series named ‘Bophelo’ which airs on Wednesdays at 1900hrs on Lesotho TV.
In the drama, she plays the role Bontle, a girl who left for the UK some years back and has come back to her country of origin after losing her father, who was a seemingly rich man. Bontle comes back home with high hopes that she will inherit her father’s riches but unfortunately, her name does not appear at all in her father’s will.
Talking about her role in the soapie, the ambitious actress said she is very excited to play the character Bontle whom she describes as a fighter who feels his father’s wealth should not be inherited by an outsider.
Very surprisingly, Dyamdeki said she never imagined herself as an actress as she never even acted from her early years. It was only after enrolling at Limkokwing University that she discovered that she was talented and passionate about acting, and that is when she started doing it wholeheartedly. Dyamdeki said she is currently having a blast acting for ‘Bophelo’ and she doesn’t want to part ways with the crew anytime soon.
“I work with very experienced people who have and are continuing to teach me a lot of things in this career and I wouldn’t want to leave the shadow of such people. I want to grow as an actress and I believe ‘Bophelo’ is a perfect platform for me,” she adds.
Michelle went to Katlehong Primary School in Thaba-Tseka, to complete her high school education at Holy Family High School and later into Limkokwing University of Creative Technology where she graduated with an Associate Degree in Broadcasting in Television and Radio.
She started modelling in high school when she was crowned Miss Holy Family, in 2017 she became Miss Maseru and in the very same year she was World Miss University and later 2nd Princess in Miss Lesotho 2019.
On her future aspirations, she says she wants to grow in the career until she is at a point where she is able to produce or work as something more than just an ordinary actor.
“I want to be more than just an average Joe – more than just an actor but I want to reach a level where I can also mentor other young actors who in future may aspire to be me,” she reveals.
Though acting has currently occupied most of her time, the multi-talented actress explained that she is still alive in the modelling world and is willing to push both careers and make the best of them because they actually complement each other.
Having represented Lesotho internationally, she said she believes there are still so many untapped opportunities that she wants to tap into and she has high hopes that one day she will put the mountain kingdom on the map through modelling.
“Luckily for me, acting is not that far from modelling since they are almost like birds of the same feather so, in all honesty, I don’t really feel that I am in two different careers, that is why I want to grow tremendously in both worlds,” she says.
