MASERU – The First National Bank Lesotho (FNB) has launched E-Commerce, a new mobile banking platform tailor-made for the Lesotho market envisaged to make it easy to buy online. Through E-Commerce, clients will be able to buy and sell goods and services on digital platforms, at their own convenience. As a digital bank, the FNB has made a product which creates convenience, security, and a very cost-effective way of online shopping for Basotho. This platform will ensure minimal physical contact, thereby helping reduce the spread of Covid-19.

Merchant service help desk officer, Keketso Nteka, said it has become more important than ever for consumers to do online shopping using platforms that are secure, safe and easy to use and cost effective anywhere they are, especially around this time when people are expected to be isolated. “We are very proud as FNB Lesotho to introduce E-Commerce, which aligns to our strategic objective of being an innovative financial institution that always strives for ways to create convenience for our customers in cost effective ways.

“The E-Commerce solution benefits both businesses and consumers and it is a great initiative for SMEs as it enables them to cut down on most of their operating costs such as rentals and minimises the costs of starting a business. “E-Commerce enables a business to operate online, which makes it unnecessary for SMEs to rent out places for operations,” said Head of Commercial and Corporate Motšeare Tšosane.

The FNB introduces the this online platform at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic has fast tracked the evolution of digital transformation, requiring businesses to be more innovative on ways to continue operating while adhering to the Covid-19 protocols. There are many advantages for businesses to take up E-commerce such as broadening their distribution channels, attracting more customers in the comfort of their own environment, and making it easy to reconcile all transactions without any hassles.
