Model ventures into eyesight business



MASERU – Clear vision is not a birth right for all mankind; it is a privilege and so is the ability to correct poor sight.

Reports says more than two billion people wake up every day with an eyesight problem and 254 million, many in the developing world, are visually impaired. From blindness to cataracts, eye diseases to glaucoma, the healthcare of our most vital of senses is a challenge, even when many conditions are treatable.

Ultimately, everyone needs eyecare at some point in life.

Thus, former Miss Vodacom PC and Miss Lesotho Companies 2009/2010, Rorisang Motlomelo decided to venture into eyecare or health business to promote good eyecare.

Motlomelo, who is now a mentor and a modelling coach, says she has opened See Clearly spectacles shop that offers spectacles to improve sight for Basotho, while also fighting the high unemployment rate that the country is currently facing.

She indicated that as a beauty queen one of her major tasks is to make a difference in people’s lives, so she decided to go into business to provide cheaper eye products, while also creating employment, especially to young people.

Speaking about her new business, Motlomelo revealed that See Clearly is a 21st Century eyewear shop that offers trendy fashionable eyewear to its clients at almost half the price of conventional eyewear shops.

She said the business was established in February 2017 and over the past two years, Motlomelo revealed she has been working hard to come up with a perfect model to run the business.

“In this business we are using our local models to promote the business because we believe that they are very influential and are the right people to go about showing people the importance of taking care of their eye,” she said.

In this business, she said clients just bring their prescription from the doctor and they would provide them with lens and frames.

Asked why she chose this kind of business, Motlomelo said she needed something that could make a bigger impact, than just being a beauty queen.

“Anyone can be in need of good health care at any time, sometimes without prior notice. In line with the SDG goals to move this country forward we have to make sure we bring innovative solutions in the healthcare space to ignite the change we want to see in the country,” she said.

“Besides that”, she continued, “a large sector of our population needs eyewear, ranging from toddlers to the elderly. However, it is normally not affordable for all, so we decided to bring affordable yet fashionable eyewear.”
