MASERU – Sotho hip-hop artist, K-Just, plans to drop a single about love on Valentine’s Day to convey his love for his partner. The 26-years-old rapper, whose real name is Koete Makaka and born in the Mokhotlong district, has been dishing out unforgettable tunes since beginning his music career in 2016. His debuted with an album titled ‘Ke itsoella pele’ released under his record label Notice Board Records.
His new widely anticipated single expected to be released on Valentine’s Day is called ‘Backdrop’ and features Lemo. “The key reason that inspired me to release this song on Valentine’s Day is the love we share with my partner, I want to portray my love for her in song,” K-Just said
In his career he has been collaborated with music greats such as the legendary Mantša Mohale of the ‘Khomo ea koti’ fame, Mantša is featured on his ‘Letsatsi nkemele’ remix.
K-Just has performed in some local and South African big events, including the Maletsunyane Braai Festival, Maseru Summer Festival, Tertiary Night, Soweto Camp Festival and the Tornado Park – alongside the likes of DJ Shimza, Kamo Mphela, AReece, Mlindo the Vocalist and many more.
“One of the artistes I look up to is Ntate Mantša who I did a song with, Letsatsi Nkemele Remix, and now I look forward to working together with the renowned Tšepo Tshola,” he said. This is K-Just’s third love song, having previously released ‘Motho oaka’ and ‘Tonight.’ “This coming Valentine’s Day I wish Basotho to love one another with true love and never fake love for material benefits,” he continued.
K-Just did his primary schooling at Moeketsane Primary School, went on to Seeiso High School and later attended Botho University where he did his Honours Degree in Accounting. In all these institutions the artiste was in the schools’ choirs, having also been a choir conductor. He is unemployed but says this does not bother him as he is still trying to build his career in music and his record label company.
“My parents gave me huge support because they saw my potential in music, they can do anything for me just for my music career flourish; that made me realise that they believed in me without doubt,” said K-Just, One of the songs he says gave him the most exposure is ‘Letsatsi Nkemele’ which was officially realised in August 2020.
“Because of performing in big events I got an opportunity to connect with big promoters and people who recognise my potential in the music industry and willing to help me mould my career, before the Covid pandemic I wanted to host my own events and shoot music videos for my songs and sell my brand.”
“COVID-19 has affected the entertainment industry very badly, our graph has dropped dismally, we cannot host any events and even if we sell our music people are not able to buy because the economy is affected as well,” observed K-Just. He sees himself one of the best African Sotho artistes of all time.
