China ready for the biggest import expo

BEIJING: The government of the People’s Republic of China has invited the Lesotho government through Ministry of Trade, Industry,Business Development and Tourism (MTIBDT) to take part in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) to be held in Shanghai next month.

The 6th famous Shanghai trade fair will be held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center from November 05 – 10, the exhibition is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government while China International Import Expo Bureau is the organizer.

Lesotho’s MTIBDT further extended an invitation to its Investment Promotion Agency Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC) to beef up the country’s participation at the trade fair. LNDC therefore called the country’s manufacturers, agricultural producers, and agro-processing companies that have export-ready products to participate at this year’s trade promotion event of CIIE.

LNDC noted that CIIE is one of the largest import expos aimed at opening up Chinese markets and liberalizing trade to promote global trade and economic growth and therefore local companies must take advantage to grow their businesses globally. China has the world’s largest population and thus making it the biggest importer and consumer in the world.

The event has been held consecutively and successfully for the past five years, with the quality of the exhibition continuing to be remarkable and drawing more of international enterprises. This year more than 3300 enterprises from 120 countries will participate at the exhibition.

The 6th CIIE will continue to follow the theme of “New Era, Shared Future”, showcasing Food and Agricultural Products, Automobile, Intelligent Industry and Information Technology, Consumer Goods, Medical Equipment and Health Care Products and Trade Services in six exhibition halls.

At a press briefing in Beijing, Song Shanze from CIIE Bureau said the President of China Xi Jinping said CIIE is the first national level exhibition with import as the theme in the whole world and also mentioned that it is important for China to actively open up markets and to take opportunity to the whole world.

Song also introduced the Hongqiao Forum, held in conjunction with the CIIE, which will gather esteemed guests from national leaders, international organizations, senior officials from national organizations and executives from top companies around the world are among the expected attendees. This forum will provide a platform for high-level discussions on economic and trade cooperation.
